ESIA Report (Power Plant)
The ESIA report assesses the environmental and social impacts associated with the power plant component, which is one of a number of components which make up the Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project. The ESIA and RAP assessment of the Transmission Lines component are included in a separate report. The objective of the Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project is to develop hydroelectric power and regional transmission connecting Burundi, Rwanda and Northwest Tanzania, and support local area development and benefit sharing activities in the area of the dam and transmission lines. The Project is part of an overall Kagera Basin Integrated Development Framework, which is part of the Nile Basin Initiative. For details refer to the attached report here.
RAP Report (Power Plant)
The RAP has been developed as one consolidated document, covering the affected communities in both countries, Rwanda and Tanzania. The proposed project is however a joint development undertaking by the Governments of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. Compared to the previous Project designs, the RoR has resulted in significant reduction of impacts with regard to types, magnitude and extent. For details refer to the attached report here.
ESIA Report (Transmission Lines)
The transmission lines will include construction of three high voltage (HV) transmission lines running from Rusumo falls power plant towards the load centres of the national grid in Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. For details refer to the attached report here.
RAP Report (Transmission lines)
The Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) was prepared to specify the compensation, resettlement and rehabilitation requirements and arrangements for the transmission component of RUSUMO Falls Hydroelectric Project. In order to minimize impacts, the line routing was redesigned in high impact areas with the objective to avoid as many houses as possible thereby preventing relocation of PAPs. For detailed report refer to the document attached here.
